The updated study continues to help inform the AONB Management Plan and provides planning and land management guidelines for conserving and enhancing the distinctive character of the AONB landscape

Designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1964, Chichester Harbour is a tidal estuarine environment framed by low-lying coastal plain against the backdrop of the South Downs National Park.  The dynamic landscape and seascape character of the Harbour is shaped by the patterns of sea and land changing with the tide, weather and seasons, and is constantly changing in response to natural processes and human activities.

CBA was commissioned by the Chichester Harbour Conservancy to update the Landscape Character Assessment of the Harbour prepared by CBA in 2005 to reflect landscape changes identified by the Chichester Harbour State of the AONB Report 2018.  The updated study continues to help inform the AONB Management Plan and provides planning and land management guidelines to assist planners, developers and landowners in conserving and enhancing the distinctive character of the AONB landscape.
