CBA’s Landscape Strategy will inform policy approaches to balancing development needs with protecting, conserving and enhancing the intrinsic character and value of the landscape.

Landscape Strategy for Wiltshire's diverse and high quality landscapes.

The aim of the Strategy is to establish clear objectives and guidelines to help ensure that the special qualities that contribute to local character and distinctiveness of the landscape are not diminished over time, and that any opportunities for enhancement are promoted.

As part of the preparation of the new Local Plan, CBA is assisting the Council by providing up-to-date and comprehensive evidence to understand the implications of proposed policies and allocations on the character of Wiltshire's landscapes.  The Strategy will inform the policy approach to balancing development needs with protecting, conserving and enhancing the intrinsic character and value of the landscape within the plan area in line with the Government's objectives for the natural and historic environment within the National Planning Policy Framework.  In addition to supporting the Council in testing potential site allocation options for the new Local Plan, this evidence will also help to inform development management decisions with regards to consideration of landscape character issues.

The Council ultimately intends to adopt the Landscape Strategy as a Supplementary Planning Document to provide guidance for supporting the implementation of the new Local Plan's landscape and development policies.
