The Study aims to strengthen and reinforce Northampton's sense of place by considering how the landscape is valued by people

CBA was commissioned by Northampton Borough Council to prepare a Landscape Character Assessment and Landscape Sensitivity Study to provide a detailed understanding of the character and sensitivity of the landscapes within and surrounding Northampton. The updated evidence base will be used by the Council to inform the assessment and allocation of sites for the emerging Local Plan. It aims to assist in managing change to the character of Northampton's urban fringe landscapes by providing advice on landscape sensitivity to accommodate development and opportunities for protecting and enhancing landscape character.

The Study aims to strengthen and reinforce Northampton's sense of place by considering how the landscape is valued by people. In addition to forming part of the evidence base for the development of landscape-focused Local Plan policies, the Study will also inform the development of policies to safeguard historic landscapes - including those which form the setting of heritage assets. The Study is intended to provide a valuable tool for informing decision-making by the Council and neighbouring authorities, developers and a range of other stakeholders. It also provides baseline information for monitoring landscape change.
